Baltimore, MD – Season opener for the Gilman Greyhounds (1-0) was night and day compared to the 2018 season opener. Unlike last year’s 47-0 lost to Gonzaga, the Hounds rocked Riverdale Baptist 47-18.
Gilman sophomore running back Ke’Yon Torain had a impressive debut, scoring 3 rushing TDS and 1 TD reception. Torain also rushed well over 100 yards against a athletic Riverdale Baptist (0-1) defense.
We would be remiss not to highlight the Hounds defense. Gilman kept Riverdale Baptist off the scoreboard for the first two quarters. Gage Crites was terror on the defensive line applying constant pressure on Quarterback, which included his first sack of the season. The Hounds defense forced 2 fumbles in the first half, and picked off the Riverdale Baptist quarterback 3 times during the course of the game. With the contest practically out of contention, Gilman linebacker William Lane returned a 50 yard interception in the third quarter to give Gilman a comfortable 40-6 lead.
Gilman will now set their eyes on next week’s match-up against Loyola Blakefield. The Dons squeaked out a victory last season against Gilman 7-6. Kick-off is at 1pm Saturday at Gilman.
