Baltimore, MD – All summer we heard the chatter on who’s going to win the 2019 High School Football season opener between #8 Milford Mill Academy (1-0) and upcoming New Town Titans(0-1). Friday night, the Millers showed they’re are poised to be a threat in Class 2A with a 14-12 win over the Titans.
In a game which presented over 180 yards in penalties, the highly anticipated contest had attendees on the edge of seats. Milford drew first blood in the second quarter after quarterback Rishon Holmes found a leaping Khalil Scott for a 5 yard touchdown (7-0 Millers 2Q). Titans responded just before the half with a 5 yard TD run by Zavion Woodard (7-6 Millers 2Q).
Second half, the penalties continued to plague both teams but they found a way to produce points in the third and fourth quarters. Millers Holmes, under duress , extend a play ending in a 5 yard Tyree Shepherd touchdown catch (14-6 Millers 3Q). But the Titans refused to concede. Momentum moved in New Town’s favor after 2021 receiver Christopher Maddox made an acrobatic catch between defenders for a touchdown (14-12 Millers 4Q). Down 2 late, Titans Coach Mike Savage had no choice but to go for the 2 point-conversion to tie. Unfortunately for the Titans, they fell just a yard short on the rushing attempt.
Milford Mill will hit the road next week to play Hereford. New Town will try to bounce back at Owings Mills Friday night.
