#4 seed Parkville Knights earned a rematch with #1 seed Milford Mill Academy Monday night. The Knights pulled away from #5 seed Franklin 61-46 late in the fourth quarter Friday afternoon. Junior Jarrin Waters and Sophomore Jordan Strickland provided a 1-2 punch Franklin struggled to contain. Down the majority of the first half, Franklin took a 28-27 lead behind 16 points from Larry Smith.
In the second the half, the Baltimore County 3A North contest turned into a game of runs. Every time Parkville was able build comfortable lead, Franklin used the three ball and easy lay-ups to cut into the deficit. In the end, it was to much Waters and Strickland. The duo combined for 36 of Parkville’s 61 points. Friday’s victory marks the second year in a row Coach Josh Czerski’s team advanced into the second round of the Maryland State tournament. Last year Parkville dominated Bel Air at home 81-55 before losing to eventual 3A champions Perry Hall.
The Knights were one of a few #4 seeds who avoided the upset bug in the opening day of the playoffs. Monday, Parkville will face a David versus Goliath task against a pissed off Millers squad. Coming off a bye, Milford was expecting to play in the Baltimore County championship a week prior. But was replaced by Dundalk after having to forfeit a game against the Owls for using an ineligible players. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm at Milford Mill Academy.
