Poly Falls Short in Tournament Opener

Glen Burnie, MD- Poly Engineers took a break from conference play Saturday to participate in the annual Okie O’Connor Tournament. The Engineers kicked off the event in a tightly contested match-up against tournament host Glen Burnie.

Poly Engineers’ Greg Hope double teamed by Gophers’ defenders

Down 4-3 at the half, Engineer Greg Hope tied the game with a quick strike in the 3rd quarter. Glen Burnie countered scoring 2 of their own by Chaston Downs and Alex Bonnell (6-4 GB). Hope would worked his magic again finding the back of the net two more times for the quarter’s second tie at 6-6.

Poly Engineer Isaiah Hammond spins off defender

Poly saw its third and final tie of the 2nd half after Isaiah Hammond scored several feet outside the crease (7-7). But Glen Burnie eventually pulled away after answering with 3 consecutive goals midway through the 4th quarter. Gopher’s Josh Klinger headed the late rally scoring 2 of Glen Burnie’s game high four goals (10-7 GB). Glen Burnie held on to a 11-9 victory to advance to the championship game.
