It was a tale of two halves in the Baltimore City Division I game between Dunbar Poets (7-1) and Edmondson-Westside Red Storm (7-2). The first half was riddled with sloppy play, including several fumbles by both teams. Dunbar was able to score first when Quarterback Jared Lewis connected with a wide open Ryan Wood for a 40 plus yard TD (6-0). Edmondson was able answer at the end the second quarter when Quarterback Teon Gardner hit a leaping DeShawn Ruffin for a 20 plus yards touchdown (6-6 halftime).
Second half it was all Dunbar. Poets transfer Alfonzo Graham would score the games next 3 touchdowns. Graham had a 15 yard TD run, a 70 plus yard pick-six, and a 60 yard TD run to put the game out of contention. The Poets went on to defeat Edmondson-Westside 42-18. The victory gives Dunbar the Ben Eaton Trophy for the 3rd year in a role and locked up a share of the Baltimore City Division I Title. The win also gives Graham his second Baltimore City Championship in a role. Last year, the senior running back helped Reginald F Lewis win the Baltimore City Division II Title with an undefeated season.
